From the album Wise Guy
The moodiest piece on the record, “Noir” was recorded in a single take. I explained how it worked to the guys, and that was that. The intro is suspended chords played in free time with Marty and myself playing the 3-phrase introductory melody rubato. This is followed up by an ostinato bassline and a dark melody which emphasizes the sixth of the minor chord. The funky groove adds an element of sexiness to the whole thing and brings it all together.
