La Cosa Nostra literally translates to “our thing”. It is how Mafioso introduce members other to each other – “he is the same thing as you – Mafioso”. According to Mafia turncoats, La Cosa Nostra is the actual name of the mafia. I wrote this in the style of the famous pianist Horace Silver, harmonizing the trumpet and saxophone around the funky-latin groove. I love the crunchy sound when the horns play in ninths.
